Santiago

Santiago

Sometimes known as Tenebrism or “chiaruscuro” or “coming through,” the assignment this week was to create a painting using dramatic lighting. I challenged myself to only use Mars Black.

I call him Santiago.

Galveston Jetty at Dusk

Galveston Pier

Nocturnal lighting aka no sun, was the assignment for the week. I wanted to do a self portrait and chose this picture of me in Galveston last fall. I am happy with the way the rocks, sky and water feel like the island of Lafitte.

Octoshroom

Octoshroom

Last spring I took this photograph of a mushroom that looked liked an octopus. I wanted to try an oval canvas and felt this was the right image to try. I call him Octoshroom.

Snow Day at Cullen Garden

Snow Day

For our third assignment, we were tasked with the question “can color create mood?” We began by priming the canvas in blue. I chose this image of the historic snow in Houston at the sculpture garden.
