“Portrait of Ludwig II”
Acrylic on canvas
Ludwig II was King of Bavaria from 1864 until he suspiciously died in 1886.
He was in love with Richard Wagner and his talent and gave all of his and his country’s money to build him grand castles to perform his operas.
The powers that be didn’t like his sexuality and had him declared insane and eventually murdered.
He built the most famous landmark in Germany, Neuschwanstein Castle and people love him today.
The background I chose is a motif of the birds and the bees in the Victorian green that had arsenic. The yellow and purple are royal colors of the east and west but also colors associated with gays.
